Becky Mnichowicz, senior, works at her family’s daycare center. Mnichowicz plans to work with children with special needs after college.

Seeing children run around, laughing and enjoying their youth, it can take anyone back into time, reminiscing the people and the memories. For Becky Mnichowicz, she prepares her future career in childcare.

“It’s just something I love to do and that’s what keeps me going. The love in my heart is so much that I don’t think I can ever give it up,” Mnichowicz said.

Mnichowicz’s interest towards special needs began in freshman year, where the Job Fair led her to pursuing her career.

“My freshmen year, we had the Job Fair and I saw this thing for special education. I’ve always loved special needs kids. They always bring a joy in my heart when I saw them,” Mnichowicz said,  From first grade,[I thought] my major was definitely becoming an elementary teacher. But since freshman year, I wanted to do special ed. There’s something there. I love it. It’s my favorite thing.”

Her passion for helping out others in need is showcased through her teachers as well.

“I think that you need to love what you do and I can see that Becky already loves this. It takes a lot of patience and in my classes I see that Becky has that with working with other students,” Rachael Fischer, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher said about the deep love, devotion, and patience Mnichowicz has for her future, “She’s very skilled when it comes to cooking and so I am able to put her in groups with kids that struggle a bit more. She is very good with working with them and making sure that they’re learning just as much as she is. I don’t always have to think of going over there because I know that she has it under control. It’s kind of been a blessing.”

Mnichowicz hopes to have a lot more fun and create memorable memories but mostly, she says, she just wants to make a difference.

“I work at my family daycare ever since I was 16 years old and I saw one girl go from the baby room, to the toddler room, and to the 2 year old room. She grew up to be such a cute little girl. I just love seeing progress in kids, knowing that I can make that progress with them. It’s an amazing feeling,” Mnichowicz said.
