Karen Marchand, English teacher is one of the many teachers and students that purchased a shirt in order to support the Amos family and the boys volleyball team. The team is devoting the game to fundraise for amytrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to honor a player’s mom who passed away this March.

Tonight’s boys volleyball game against Stevenson is about more than just their first Conference match of the season. The team is devoting the game to fundraising for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to honor a players’ mom who passed away this March.

“The one player is a senior, the other is a sophomore, so I’ve known their family for four years and have been able to, unfortunately, watch the progression of ALS with their mom,” Lesly Ravenscraft, boys volleyball varsity coach, said. “We wanted to do something, some type of fundraiser this year, so I chose ALS to honor her and the family.”

The team has sold over 200 t-shirts already, according to Ravenscraft. The Stevenson volleyball team and parents have also bought shirts to support the family and team. T-shirts will still be sold at the game for $15.

“[People should come to the game] to support ALS and support the family, which is the most important reason. I think this year, the team has the opportunity to go very far this season. They’ll be an exciting team to watch this year,” Ravenscraft said. “We want more people to get behind volleyball, as much as possible.”
