How one symbol will unify LZHS

“We really wanted to bring attention away from ‘LZT’. People love saying it, but we actually go to a great school and need to bring attention to the good things, as opposed to the few negative things,” Merrick Howarth, Student Council president, said.

Student Council has been creating a school-wide hashtag since last school year. They will reveal the possible hashtags at the Back to School assembly today.

The hashtag will primarily be used for sporting events , but also for things such as concerts and events, along with club achievements, according to Kalynn Rhew, junior and student council officer.

“Student council decided that we want the student body to be able to find events or news quickly by searching one school-wide hashtag from things about football to an art show to a volunteer opportunity for Interact,” Rhew said. “It makes us more unified as a school on social media.”

The hashtag is only one of many changes that Student Council is implementing this year. Charity Bash will take place earlier this year, and there are promises of new events alongside old ones this spring.

“We are hoping to do new things like have assemblies outside, pep rallies, and we are hoping to introduce a whole new event in the spring that should be big and exciting, but we can’t release too much information about it yet,” Howarth said.

While Student Council foresees the hashtag being successful, the key to a school-spirited student body is the underclassmen, according to Howarth.

“Under classes have to dress up [this] year,” Howarth said. “The best way to make our school year great is by uniting and supporting each other and enjoying our time in high school while we have it.”
