Legos taking over YouTube
Lego brick attacking a Lego character may seem random, but to Mike Ewan it was his favorite video and the start of his experimentation with LegoMations
“My favorite video I have made so far is ‘LEGOlogy,’” Mike Ewan, senior, said. “It’s about a guy that is following a Lego brick around and it attacks him and he has to fight him. The story isn’t impressive, but I really liked the fight scene and it was entertaining and humorous watching a guy fight a brick. In this video, I just wanted to see how creative I could be.”
Grant Wallace, senior, and Ewan’s friend, said “LEGOlogy” is his personal favorite as well.
“It is definitely my favorite. It is one of his older ones,” Wallace said. “There is this epic battle scene and it is amazing. It literally is a brick fighting a jungle-slaying man and it is hilarious. It is classic Ewan.”
“LEGOlogy” may just be short video with a fighting scene, but Ewan has more elaborate videos on his Youtube channel, including one that has over 750,000 views.
“One of my Lego Clone Wars videos got the most views,” Ewan said. “Most of my videos are not above 500,000, so it was pretty cool to see so many people have seen my work. It is pretty gratifying because it is not super easy making these videos. There is a community for Lego stop motion creators, and I am guessing my video popped up with similar types of videos. Although it is nice to get a lot of views, I do it for myself. It is fun to see what I am capable of.”
Due to Ewan’s interest in Star Wars, he said his favorite films he has ever seen are Star Wars reenactments.
“The first Lego stop motion videos I saw were Star Wars ones and I was in fifth grade and really liked them. They really inspired me from the start, which led me to create the ‘Lego Clone Wars: The 41st Elite Legion’ videos, one through four.”
Logan Ejupi, senior, said he also is into the Star Wars Lego stop motion videos Ewan has created. If Ejupi could pick the next video for Ewan to create, he said he would like to see The Lord of the Rings in Lego form.
“I would like to see the big battle from The Lord of the Rings. I think that would be really cool to watch in Legos. It would take a lot of video to produce it, but the constant action and fighting scene would be awesome.”
