Some students get the perks of their parents being salespeople or doctors, but students like Emily Maddox, junior, get the tasteful advantage of having chefs as parents. Whether it is a family dinner or small snacks when friends come over, the Maddox family never has a bland meal.
Michael Maddox, Emily’s father, is a chef instructor, meaning he spends his time teaching other chefs how he works in the culinary world. Susan Maddox, Emily’s mother, is also a chef alongside her husband. However, a great ability to cook does not always run in the family.
“My grandma is also a pretty good chef as well,” Emily Maddox said. “She loves to cook, and we used to live on a farm, so my dad also brings that to the table when he cooks, but both my aunts are awful. Cooking for them is just not fun. They’re like polar opposites.”
Emily Maddox enjoys what comes with her parents being chefs, but how it impacts her whole life is what she deems as best.
“I think it’s about the life experience in general because we get to meet so many people and just to see how much joy it brings,” Maddox said. “When it comes to parties, he can do catering. It just makes everyone so happy. It can bring people together. It’s just amazing.”
People of LZ will be able to learn his expertise this summer at the Ela Public Library. Michael Maddox will be offering cooking classes throughout this summer.
