All District 95 schools, including the high school, will take part in an early release day on September 17 in which school will end at 1:11pm for the high school, while after school activities will be held at normal times.
“The purpose of early release is to provide teachers with time,” Ryan Rubenstein, assistant principal, said. “[Teachers] get two hours to work as a team to analyze student work and curriculum.”
Early release days are returning to the high school after a few years when they were replaced by late starts, while continuing in elementary and middle schools. According to Rubenstein, late starts do not provide teachers with enough time, so early releases have been reinstated.
“We were able to go back to the district and take a look at the number of minutes at school. We made sure we complied with the [state] regulation and we did, so the district graciously reinstated early releases for us,” Rubenstein, said.
Early release days are shorter than late start days, however. Each high school class lasts 31 minutes during early release days, compared to 40 minutes during late start.
