This year, Rachel’s Challenge and a lunch program are not the only additions to the high school, as a variety of new members have joined the Lake Zurich faculty.
Sheila Evans, an English teacher who previously worked at Crystal Lake High School, is one of these additions.
“Lake Zurich has so much passion and so many new ideas,” Evans said. “I was so excited when I got the job.”
Evans teaches freshmen, sophomore, and junior English. Even though she has only worked in the building for three weeks, she says she already admires the teachers and students.
“I’m very impressed by the teacher’s work ethic and how they go out of their way to help students,” Evans said.
Helping students is why Evans became a teacher, as she says she had influential English teachers when she was growing up.
“I’ve always loved working with organizations involving kids, and I knew I wanted to teach,” Evans said.
This is one of the reasons Evans was drawn to Lake Zurich, as she says she loved the rigorous academics and extensive extracurricular activities.
“It’s a really great school,” Evans said, “Everyone’s been so helpful.”
Evans says she eager to become more involved.
“I’m definitely going to be a spectator for the games,” Evans said. “I’d also like to learn more about the music and choir programs.”
Evans was in musical productions in junior high and high school, so theater is also an interest.
Either way, Evans is enjoying her new job.
“I’m so impressed,” Evans said. “I’m just really happy to be here.”
